Leighton Asia is pleased to support the SciTech Challenge 2020, which is co-organised by Construction Industry Council and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation.
Robert Dickson, Innovation Lead and Andy Ho, Leighton Asia's IT Manager contributed their acumen in technology and knowledge of the construction industry to each mentor two participating teams and assist as panel judges for the challenge.
A total of 68 teams entered the Open and Student Categories, with one of the teams mentored by Leighton, Heightsecure Technologies, outperforming the competition to be crowned winners of the Student Category.
The team of three high school students is developing a sensor product that collects data on scaffolding systems to improve safety on construction sites. They have developed a working prototype using 3D printing, displacement sensors and a unique algorithm. Leighton provided support and an opportunity for the team to test the product on a live construction site, providing valuable feedback for their product development.
The Heightsecure team said, ‘The Scitech challenge was a great initiative and has helped us to develop a product which we are confident will improve the construction industry. We are grateful to Leighton for all their support and advice and look forward to working with them more in the future.’
Congratulations to team and we look forward to the next opportunity to contribute our expertise to drive innovation and digitisation in the industry!
