Leighton Asia’s Cavite Laguna Expressway (CALAX) (Cavite section) project team in the Philippines has recently installed the first bridge girder, as part of the construction of a new 28km four-lane expressway connecting the Cavite and Laguna regions.
Throughout construction, the CALAX project team has overcome the challenges of space constraints, accessibility to the site and weather to achieve this significant project milestone.
Delivering during the wet season required innovative solutions to ensure safety and quality control. The project team redesigned the spans to mitigate safety risks and address environmental issues associated with slope erosion. Large diameter reinforced concrete pipes were set up as a temporary bridge and piling platform to ensure the safe and successful lift of the girder using a 650-tonne crane.
The launch of the first girder signifies the team’s commitment and effort to deliver works safely under all circumstances. Leighton Asia has also worked with EIC Activities, CIMIC Group’s engineering and technical services business, for their advice on the planning and logistics of the girder launch.
Safety is always our number one priority. We will continue to apply our knowledge and adopt the right construction methodology to ensure works are delivered safely.
